Brief information about the organization:
- - Main objectives are conducting events, contributing to friendship establishment;
- - Promoting friendly relations and cooperation among countries and people in the space of the Silk Road;
- - Strengthening cultural, scientific, educational and economical relations through tourism development.
- The main purpose of the Union is to provide tourist area along the Silk Road with information popularizing its potential. SRTU is working under a grant from the Eurasia Foundation to create a tourist information service in the South Caucasus. SRTU sees this work as the first step in a series of projects to revitalize Caucasus’ tourism industry. The next stage is to re-integrate the tourism industries and finally, the entire Silk Road from Europe to Asia.
List of activities: 10-13 July, 200019 February 1999 - Foundation of NGO Silk Road Tourist Union April, 1999- Starting point on a long-term project 'Information Service for Tourist Space of the Silk Road", 1st stage - Creating Database of Georgia's Tourism Potential August, 1999- Grant from Eurasia Foundation for implementing the project "'Information Service for Tourist Space of the Silk Road" April 2000 Making the web-site of Georgia’s tourist potential: April 2000 Making CD version of the web-site of Georgia’s tourist potential 5-7 May, 2000 Participation in the Caucasus International Tourism Fair Conducting an international event “Regional seminar on tourism as a Tool for economic development in the South Caucasus” in Chakvi (Batumi), with participants from eight countries. The Soros Foundation Program “East-East” sponsored the seminar.
