The biological farming association Elkana, a non-governmental georgian organization, was founded in 1993. since 1996 Elkana has been a member of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM).
Having started with 9 farmers in 1993, the association unites more than 200 peasant, 5 Diocese and 3 Monastery farms today.
Our Main Objectives
¨ to assist the sustainable development of Georgian agriculture
¨ to promote the creation of social-economically sustainable organic farms in Georgia
¨ to improve living conditions in rural areas by stimulating self-help processes in Georgian villages
BASIC ACTIVITIES OF ELKANA
Extension Service for organic Farmers
Our consultants are in regular contact with the association members to provide needed organic expertise, disseminate “advisory handouts” and carry out thematic seminars; also, experiments are being carried out in the field of organic farming.
Extension Service for Rural Development
By applying participatory methods our consultants help rural people to analyze their overall situation, identify existing problems and find solutions.
