Farmers make wine still in archaic way- in huge clay pots. That’s why our peasants’ wine has tannin, microelements and aroma. There’s a great tradition of using wine for medical purposes.
During last years the wine made from grapes “Saperavi” became very popular at the world market. It is famous for its unique features and is exotic for the West. more photos
Apiculture Georgian bee (mountain gray bee) is a spread in the Caucasus. Due to the length of the lancet it occupies the first place in the world. With its help it takes nectar out of such flowers that are not available for other bees. That’s why Georgian honey is distinguished for its aroma, taste and medical features. Georgian bee is a very quiet insect.
Fishing In producing ecologically clean food fishing has an important role. The Caucasus is rich in hydroresources that gives opportunities to develop fishing. Popular producing fish are trout, thick-forehead… Trout farm is in the ownership of Ltd. The base has capacity to get about 10t fish.
Medical Planting Program coordinator Lali Dateshidze
The Caucasus is an ecologically clean region on the whole and the conditions are favorable for growing medical plants and getting natural dye. The demand for medical plants is growing at the world market. Caucasian eco-villages can be involved in getting medical plants, which would foster to create jobs for the population.
With the support of the Institute of Plants a farm was created where they grow only some species. There are still lots of reserves to acquire.
Sericulture Program coordinator Zaur Asatiani
Sericulture played a great role in the economy of different countries. The forming of the first transinternational road “Great Silk Road” is connected with the growth of sericulture and its realization. The Caucasus played the key role in this field. The proof of the vital capacity of the “Great Silk Road” is the attempt to restore it at the beginning of the second and third millenium, as one of the important transport arteries of the update world.
The Caucasus has multicentury tradition in sericulture. This field is not only unique but it’s important for cultural heritage of the Caucasian people. During centuries a special infrastructure was created for this field.
Last hard processes of moving to market economy have damaged the economy on the whole and this field as well. The consumers market was lost.
But notwithstanding the problems sericulture still is a specific field of economy of Georgia which reserved its material and technical bases in 30 regions of Georgia.
The center has worked out the appropriate project together with the Silk Union. |
