Brief information about the Organization
In 1980 the group of enthusiasts under the guidance of Mr.Shalva Givishvili start creating cultural-tourististic center and after 8-9 years hard works it was executed. It consisted of museum exhibits, monastery center of the 16th century, a conference hall, eco-farming (orchard 30h. kitchen garden 3h, cattle, apiculture), horsemanship tourist camping, ethnographic shops, wood-park (30h) and others. The project was made with the partnership of Georgian Art Museum in Kakheti Region, in a beautiful landscape. At the end of eighties the situation in the Soviet Union lost that great labor.
The aim of the Caucasian ecological-community center is creating ecological communities and settlings for the coexistence of a person, society and environment in the Caucasian area (extensively in regulation). The founders of the center and the members have one common aim for. To achieve that goal joint programs and projects are being elaborated. A joint resource bank is founded. Lots of arrangements are planned and executed by own strength.
The center studies world experience of creating ecovilleges, ecocommunities, taking care of the environment and takes into consideration geographical, ethnic, social situation in the Caucasus and elaborates optimal models of ecosettlings, it will implant and support its development.
Nowadays the situation in the Caucasus not only allows to start the eco community movement but it’s become necessary. The reasons for it are following:
1. Long economic crisis in South-Caucasian countries; 2.Total unemployment and extreme poverty and enormous cases of robbery in the villages as well; 3. Mistreatment of the environment. Damaged natural cover because of energy crisis and corrupted wood business; 4. Increase of opposition within social levels; 5. The Caucasus has become inspired polygon for ethnic opposition; 6. Corruption; 7. The necessity of regarding the global ecological problems as their own by Caucasian population; 8. Low level of ecoconciousness in the population; 9. Increase of diseases caused by hard social background; 10. High percentage of using drugs and cigarettes by children and adults;
To cope with all these problems it’s necessary to find alternative ways of public relations.
There are certain preconditions for it in the Caucasus. In the mountains there still exists archaic community and patrimonial elements. Existing general village wood, pastures, water, herding the cattle in turn and the tradition of giving one another a hand during hard times, etc. are the proofs of community relations.
Many villages are clean from the point of view of environment, housing and economy.
The third ecologico-social sector is very active in the Caucasus; Lots of charity foundations support the third sector to fulfill the projects;
With the support of certain governments national parks are created and related infrastructure is developed;
With the help of certain countries World Bank multiyear project for overcoming poverty and developing mountain regions has already started.
Our urgent tasks are: ¨ To open ecological educational activities. Implant ecological thinking. ¨ Create sample eco-settlements and their popularization; ¨ Popularization of healthy life style; ¨ Prepare a legislative package about eco-communities and villages.
The center will collaborate with any interested organization and person. We’ll consider all recommendations and wishes that will foster to achieve our goals.
