Association of Urbanists of Georgia (AUG) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-partisan, public organization, where the specialists of the investigation field, design, planning and sphere of management of human settlements, as well as those interested in the formation and development processes of urban culture in Georgia are incorporated. Prior to official registration of AUG in 1990 it was operating as so called “informal organization”. According to the new requirements AUG was re-registered in January ‘99.
The AUG Objectives are: To combine the efforts of all activity wings connected with an urbia as a cultural phenomenon.To investigate sociological and physiological aspects of contemporary urban society.
To contribute in creating sustainable and deserving habitat.
To assist the bodies responsible in working out of a strategy of urbanization of Georgia.
To promote socially and economically oriented city- and regional planning.
To establish the self-governmental institutions including condominiums.
All these in its part will support the formation process of democratic and civic society in Georgia.
Hence, AUG:
Works out the programs of development of human settlements;
Makes an independent examination of important projects and draft laws;
Displays legislative initiative;
Carries out consultations, correspondent propaganda and publicist activity;
Complies educational programs for students of architectural schools;
AUG collaborates with:
The parliament of Georgia;
UN Center for Human Settlements (Habitat);
Ministry of Urbanization and Construction of Georgia;
International and foreign organizations operating in Georgia;
Local communities;
Local governments and self-governments;
General Public;
Mass media.
List of activities: During last years the main directions in the activities of AUG was the sphere of legislation and creative competitions. On the initiative of AUG scientific-practical conference on the problem of territorial and state arrangement of Georgia was carried out in cooperation with Ministry of Urbanization and Construction of Georgia, Committee for Self-government and Regional Policy of the Parliament of Georgia and Co-ordinate Body of Local Government and Regional policy of the State Office of Georgia in 1996. Recommendations adopted during the conference were published and submitted to the Parliament of Georgia.
